Now. This here is one of the first set of cars being given out for test drives. We have come here to spend a day with the Thiago iwi. The average commute for Ev owners is said to be about 50 kilometers a day and thats, something that is going to be a mix mostly of traffic within City and negotiating slow moving traffic in tight roads and thats, something that we can expect to experience in Goa. Dont be taken in by the location we are in. This, of course, is a nice desolate part of Goa that weve chosen to shoot the car, but were going to be driving through some thick traffic and experiencing what the Tiago EV has to offer. So the Thiago EV, as you can see, is a vehicle that theyre all very familiar with the design is almost identical to the ice Tiago thats there on the roads. There are very clear signatures right on this telling you that this is an EV and especially from the Tata family. The fascia is very similar. The humanity line, as you can see, exists with the Thiago ev2. The stylized dot. Ev is something with this new font that theyve come up with for specifically for the electrics. Similarly, at the rear, you can see the new Thiago EV signature, emblazoned on the tailgate now the front as you can see the nose, the sharp nose, the classic Tata design language, all of that stays with the Tiago EV.

What, of course, has changed? Is this Grille, which now is a solid sort of polycarbonate, finished Grill, which doesnt need to send in cool air for cooling, an engine underneath the Bonnet, the Arrow design, the humanity line, the sharp nose and, of course, the headlamps remaining identical to the Tiago? The other differentiator that you get in the Thiago EV versus the regular ice Tiago, of course, is the alloy wheels in this are different. They are aerodynamically optimized, and the Apollo tires that you see here. These are low rolling resistance tires. They are meant to improve the range and reduce friction. So this here is the 24 kilowatt battery variant, which will deliver about a rated range driving range of about 315 kilometers. The 19 kilowatt battery pack can deliver a rated range of about 257 kilometers on a full charge. Of course, Real World Range will differ, will be dependent on driving conditions and driving style. This 24 kilowatt hour battery pack should be pretty good enough for a 200 plus range. The rear two in terms of design is is very similar to the Tiago ice version that we have seen, but some differences and, of course it gets five different colorways, including the steel blue, that we are seeing here. This is the third electric from the Tata Motors family after the next one. The tiger, and this now will form a trio of electrics that will then be targeting. Customers across the Spectrum.

Tata Motors believes that electrics are going to be the future, and this specifically is going to be the most appealing Mass Market electric out there, because in terms of footprint in terms of size in terms of affordability, this is getting really really close to what a mass Market electric can be as of now. This is probably the electric that you can expect to buy if you are looking for a small electric vehicle as a Runabout for your daily commute. This is capable of delivering a range of about 250 kilometers on a full charge and given the average commute being about 50 kilometers a day or lesser, this is a vehicle that can potentially run for five days without charging, and that is comforting to hear the Thiago Ev cabin is again very familiar lots of similarity with the ice Thiago, but it still gets a different set of equipment and of course, it still gets a fair bit of Kit inside the cabin leather upholstery. Chrome handles teal blue Accent on the air vents and a leather wrapped steering wheel is what I found in my top end, Tiago, EB that I was driving. It does get a touchscreen infotainment system and music system thats been tuned by Harman, a digital instrument cluster, with real time, information being displayed both in terms of power and torque being delivered and the charge and state of charge for the battery push button start automatic headlamps Rain sensing wipers electric Trail, tailgate, release, cable, driven, Android, auto and apple carplay connectivity with the infotainment system and, of course, a range of buttons right on the center stack for various functions.

The overall layout of the dashboard and the center stack very similar to the regular ice Thiago. But again there are some small changes there. Two practical features included this electric tailgate, reverse camera, with guidelines, cruise control and, of course, Hill start assist and Hill descent assist. Both of which can come in handy if you are going to be stuck in traffic while in the middle of flyover lets, say even in City driving conditions, the battery itself can be charged at home, using a wall box eight and a half to nine hours, depending On state of charge, of course, from about 10 to 100 percent is what it is rated to deliver. A 7.2 kilowatt AC home wall box. Charger is offered for the top two variants of the 24 kilowatt version and that again can deliver full charge in about 3.6 hours and of course, you can choose to charge the new Tiago EV at a DC fast charger. The long range can be charged up to 80 from 10 percent in as little as 58 minutes and thats the kind of time you might take. If you were to stop for a coffee and a snack on the highway uh. Some of the things that I sort of missed in the Tata Tiago UV were a full spare wheel. What the battery pack under the floor of the rear seat has done is to take in a bit of the space available in the boot, and so the floor of the boot is a little raised, and the Fallout is the fact that you dont get a spare Wheel, what you get instead is a tire puncture repair kit.

In all probability, you will find that the tire puncture repair kit itself can be quite handy and enough. The other functions within the cabin that I thought could have been a little different and what I missed included: the more storage options on the center console um. Some of the storage options felt a little narrow and impractical and the other minor ergonomics issues that I had with the Tata Tiago EV included the turn indicator stocks and the headlamp stocks being a little further away, which has been a feature in many Tata cars and That continues in the Thiago ev2 other than that. The cabin is quite spacious for a car of this footprint and size, and there is enough knee room and leg room even for rear passengers, so the Tiago UV. What weve been driving today is the long range and of course they have a medium range now this is a 24 kilowatt hour battery and the medium range is a 19 odd kilowatt hour battery the two uh battery sizes, uh are not the only differences that you Get there is also a slight variation in output. This one here delivers about 74 horsepower of peak power and 140 newton meters of torque. The medium range delivers a peak power of about 60 horsepower and about 110 newton meters of torque. Now there is a general tendency in todays world where people are not even bothering about the power output because genuinely what is more important than What fields more.

The way attributable to an electric in terms of drivability is the talk that is instantaneous in all electric, with the peak torque output being available from standstill now. Here 140 newton meters of torque by sheer numbers may not seem like a lot, but on road when a you are behind the wheel. All of that talk being available makes a big difference in terms of drivability. It does feel extremely Nimble and quick acceleration is instantaneous and there is a lot of output at the wheel available. Even when youre doing slow speeds, uh in in terms of the response from the throttle is pretty instantaneous and it feels very light. Footed, though there is a lot of solidity to it when youre going over bad roads, there is a lot of solidity to it. When youre taking turns at high speeds, there is a genuine feel of being planted, and you know the suspension. Quality is also quite sturdy, while youre behind the wheel. That said, there is still a feeling of light footedness, which you do to experience at slower speeds and when you are doing quick overtake Maneuvers, the two variants also get two Drive modes, one being City and the other is Sport. You just dont get only these two Drive modes. You also do get three or four different region levels with the zero region level being where there is absolutely no regenerative braking and it is a point, a choice, a mode at which you would be coasting and there is no region happening.

There are three other region levels region, one being the lowest level of regenerative, braking that the vehicle automatically engages. When you take your foot off the throttle, there is, of course, the second region, two and Region Three so effectively in two different Drive modes and four different region levels. You do get about eight different uh, you know driving modes, so to say so. Weve been driving. The Thiago EB through the day today and we cant tell you that this is certainly one of the quickest nimblest small cars that weve experienced, even if you were to compare it amongst other vehicles in the ice sphere, this, of course, being the hatch EV. That is currently available in the market and affordable too at a price range starting from about 8.5 lakhs and going all the way up to 11.8 lakhs for this top term variant. Now the Thiago EV has already been open for booking since October mid, and this is a good taste of what is to come, the Tiago EB being genuinely good when it comes to the way it behaves on the road. The way it has been packaged and the way it has been price, positioned, um. It is a price advantage that Tata enjoys with a modified ice platform, which is what the Tiago has been built on. We do not know whether the newer generation platforms might make them more expensive, but for now this is a great option if you are in the market for an electric – and this is a very, very appealing package overall in terms of drivability in terms of range, the 24 kilowatt hour being very capable of delivering a small weekend holiday from one city to another.

That, then, is the Tiago EV.
